The semiconductor industry is still in the upscale cycle of the cycle, and the IC insight survey, a market investigative agency, said the capital expenditure of the global semiconductor industry in 2018 would break through the hundreds of billions of dollars.
The report said that in March 2018, IC insight had predicted that the total capital expenditure of semiconductors in 2018 would grow by 8%. Today, less than a quarter of a year, IC insigh has raised its estimate from 8% to 14%. In this way, the total semiconductor expenditure in 2018 will break 100 billion US dollars for the first time, and the sum will grow by 53% over 2016.

The report further points out that South Korea, which has been the leading leader in semiconductor capital expenditure for the last two years, has not yet announced the total amount of capital expenditure in 2018, but it is generally believed that it will not exceed the figure of $24 billion 200 million in 2017. However, on the current observation, Samsung is still winding up.
In fact, Samsung's semiconductor capital expenditure in the first quarter of 2018 reached US $6 billion 720 million, slightly higher than the previous 3 quarter level. However, if compared with the same period in 2016, it has grown nearly 4 times the scale. Over the past 4 quarters, the capital expenditure of Samsung Semiconductor has reached US $26 billion 600 million.
IC insight expects that Samsung Semiconductor's capital expenditure will be up to 20 billion yuan in 2018, slightly lower than the US $24 billion 200 million in 2017. However, there was a slightly higher growth in the first quarter of 2018. Therefore, the final result is likely to be higher than the expected $20 billion.
In addition, because of the strong market demand of NAND Flash and DRAM, the South Korean memory plant SK helix is expected to increase its capital expenditure to $11 billion 500 million in 2018, up 42% from $8 billion 100 million in 2017.
The capital expenditure increased by SK Hynix in 2018 will be mainly used in the construction of two large scale memory factories in Qingdao, Korea. In addition, we need to expand the DRAM plant in Wuxi, China. The Qingzhou factory will begin to build by the end of 2018, and the expansion of the DRAM plant in Wuxi, China, is also planned to start by the end of 2018, a few months earlier than the original planned start of 2019.
