Intel Is Abandoning Xeon Phi To Announce The Eight Type Of Shutdown.

Intel is abandoning Xeon Phi, announcing that the eight models are shutting down, Intel's Xeon Phi, the initial code name Larrabee. Although Intel has promised that its programming model is more productive for developers from x86, Xeon Phi has never achieved any commercial success in the market. At the same time, NVIDIA GPU has taken over the field of supercomputing, and the latest generation of Volta has destroyed Intel Xeon Phi products.

Intel's original plan was to release a new generation of Xeon Phi called "Knights Hill" on the 10 nanometer technology. However, as the market demand for Xeon Phi is not high and the 10 nanometer process has been postponed, it forced the company to give up the project. Now, the company announces that they are stopping producing eight kinds of Xeon Phi currently shipped.

Xeon Phi 72107210F, 72307230F, 72507250F, 7290 and 7290F are affected, these are socket CPU with accelerator design. Accelerator design using similar graphics cards has been cancelled. Interestingly, the notice of discontinuation referred to "market demand for products has been transferred to other Intel products", but these products do not exist in Intel. The company has no products in its product lineup to provide performance or functionality similar to Xeon Phi. The only successor to think of is Raja Koduri and the GPU project that his team is working on, but it is not expected to be marketed before 2019.
