NetEase (NetEase) June 21st, researchers have revealed that a new "spin quantum bit" chip is being tested for a new step in the development of quantum computers.

The new chip, built at Intel's D1D Fab plant in Oregon, uses Intel to make the same silicon manufacturing technology for billions of traditional computer chips. It is reported that this is the smallest quantum computing chip made by Intel at present, smaller than the eraser on the pencil head.

This 2018 photo shows a new Intel quantum computing chip on the eraser. Researchers have begun testing this "spin qubit chip" at the extremely low temperature of about 460 degrees Fahrenheit for quantum computation. Intel predicts that quantum computers running on qubits and single electron will one day be more powerful than today's supercomputers.

The new spin quantum bit chips can run at a very low temperature required by quantum computing: about 460 degrees below zero (about 273 degrees below zero) - 250 times more than space cold.

A spin qubit chip does not contain transistors (a switch that forms the basis of today's computing device), but contains a quantum bit ("qubit") that can hold a single electron. At the same time, single electrons in multiple rotating states or other behaviors bring much more computing power than today's transistors, and the behavior of single electrons is also the basis of quantum computing.

The zigzag line in the picture is the printed circuit connected to the outside of the chip.

Intel's new micro - spin sub - bit chip has the limitless potential: its quantum bit is very small - about 50 nanometers wide and can be seen only under an electron microscope. The diameter of a hair can be passed by about 1500 qubits.

This means that the design of the new Intel spin qubit chip will be able to expand in a big way. Future quantum computers will contain thousands or even millions of qubits, much more powerful than today's fastest supercomputers. (Yi Zhi)
